Job Description: HVAC Estimator / Plan Take-Off Specialist VA Rate : $10AUD per hour (negotiable) Company Overview: We are a growing HVAC business in Australia delivering high-quality residential and commercial air conditioning solutions, including installation, servicing, and system design. Job Summary: We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly analytical HVAC Estimator / Plan Take-Off Specialist to join our team. This role is critical in reviewing construction drawings, performing accurate material take-offs, and preparing precise cost estimates for HVAC systems and components. The ideal candidate will have either: ● A hands-on HVAC / air conditioning technician background, who has transitioned into estimating and understands real-world labour hours, installation methods, and site conditions, OR ● 5–7+ years of solid estimating experience, with a strong track record of accuracy, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of the importance of precise costing in HVAC or construction projects. This role requires someone who understands that accurate estimating directly impacts profitability, project success, and client satisfaction. Key Responsibilities: ● Review architectural, mechanical, and construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications ● Perform detailed HVAC plan take-offs for ducted and split system projects ● Quantify materials, equipment, labour, and installation requirements accurately ● Prepare detailed and competitive cost estimates and quotations ● Interpret project scope, identify risks, exclusions, and discrepancies in plans ● Coordinate with sales, project managers, contractors, and suppliers ● Support pricing strategy, tender submissions, and proposal development ● Maintain organized documentation of estimates, bids, and revisions ● Ensure all estimates are completed within required deadlines ● Stay updated with HVAC systems, products, industry standards, and market pricing ● Perform fan selections and technical calculations as required ● Use Fantech selection software (mandatory requirement) Qualifications & Experience: ● Proven experience as an HVAC Estimator, Mechanical Estimator, or similar role ● OR background as an HVAC / air conditioning technician transitioning into estimating ● Strong ability to read and interpret HVAC/mechanical drawings and specifications ● Experience performing detailed material take-offs and quantity surveying ● Solid understanding of HVAC systems including ductwork, fittings, and equipment ● Proficiency in estimating tools such as Bluebeam, AutoCAD, or similar software ● Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills ● Excellent attention to detail with a high level of accuracy in cost estimation ● Strong communication and coordination skills across teams and stakeholders ● Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines ● Familiarity with Australian building codes and HVAC standards Preferred Qualifications: ● Background in mechanical engineering, HVAC trade, or construction ● Experience in both residential and commercial HVAC projects ● Understanding of supplier pricing, procurement processes, and margin control ● Experience working in the Australian HVAC industry Key Attributes: ● Strong commercial awareness and understanding of cost impact ● High accountability for accuracy in estimating outputs ● Ability to think like both a technician and an estimator ● Proactive, detail-driven, and process-oriented Apply To This Job
