Land Development Engineer

Epic Engineering is currently seeking a motivated and skilled Land Development Engineer to join their growing Civil Engineering Team. This role is essential in transforming undeveloped land into functional spaces and involves collaborating with various stakeholders to deliver high-quality land development projects.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting site assessments and feasibility studies, including review of land records, topography, soil conditions, geotechnical reports, and environmental constraints such as wetlands and flood zones
  • Developing horizontal infrastructure designs, including:
  • Site layout and grading plans
  • Stormwater management systems (detention/retention ponds, swales, storm drains)
  • Utility systems for water, sanitary sewer, electricity, and telecommunications
  • Roadway, access, and parking design
  • Interpreting and applying local, state, and federal regulations, zoning codes, and design standards
  • Preparing and submitting engineering reports, permit applications, and construction documents to regulatory agencies
  • Coordinating with architects, land surveyors, environmental consultants, contractors, and government officials
  • Providing construction administration, including site inspections, responding to RFIs, and ensuring compliance with approved plans and safety standards
  • Preparing cost estimates, specifications, bid documents, and project schedules
  • Supporting project managers and senior engineers throughout the lifecycle of land development projects

Skills

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required or the ability to obtain licensure within a defined timeframe for senior-level roles
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interacting with clients, agencies, and internal teams
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality design
  • Client management skills
  • Engineer Intern (EI) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification preferred
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D; experience with GIS and stormwater modeling software (e.g., HEC-RAS, SWMM) is preferred
  • Previous experience in land development or civil site design preferred, but entry-level candidates with strong technical skills will be considered
