We are seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to join our team as a Program Coordinator for the Guardian Scholars Program at San José State University. This is a remote-based position that offers a competitive salary, comprehensive benefits, and the opportunity to work with a diverse and talented team.

Job Summary

The Program Coordinator will work under the general supervision of the Interim Manager of the Guardian Scholars Program to provide complex and sensitive professional student services to support the academic success and holistic well-being of former foster youth and independent students. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the needs of historically underserved student populations and will be able to develop and implement programs and services that promote student retention and persistence to graduation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development, implementation, and assessment of Trauma-Informed programming to support current and former foster youth, independent students, and unhoused students
  • Coordinate program tutoring, college strategy courses, events, and life skills trainings/workshops
  • Participate in foster youth advocacy and advisory councils
  • Respond to all Guardian Scholars referrals received
  • Assist with the admissions process and program intake process
  • Coordinate day-to-day operations of the Guardian Scholars Lounge
  • Provide administrative support, including photocopying, scanning, faxing, and filing documents
  • Attend conferences/meetings and maintain a working knowledge of developments/legislation on issues addressing current and former foster youth, access, and equity programs

Requirements

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field
  • Two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field
  • A master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience
  • Thorough knowledge of and skill in working with historically underserved student communities
  • Knowledge of multicultural and identity development and frameworks for related diversity training
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to advise potential students, parents, and high school and community college staff individually and in group settings

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, or other related field
  • Two or more years of professional experience in higher education or student affairs
  • Experience working with students who have experienced foster care, out-of-home placement, and/or homelessness, and are first-generation
  • Ability to cultivate a sense of belonging amongst students; advise students and connect them with relevant resources
  • Working knowledge of the Maxient database system, Canvas, Oracle/PeopleSoft, CSU Common Management System or equivalent student information system; and Google Workspace and calendaring programs

Compensation and Benefits

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $4,610/month - $4,727/month. San José State University offers employees a comprehensive benefits package typically worth 30-35% of your base salary.
