This individual will be responsible for providing scientific/ medical direction and leadership for pre-clinical/ early clinical programs for Amgen’s Early Development Obesity/CV pipeline. The Medical Director will lead the early phase clinical development of compounds from first-in-man studies through proof of concept and translational projects as part of the initial drug development strategy. This individual will also serve as the Evidence Generation Team leader for one or more of Amgen’s Product Teams through their role as an Early Development Leader (EDL).Let’s do this. In this vital role this Medical Director will be responsible for representing Early Development during interactions with other Amgen functions and key external partners including regulatory agencies and the scientific community. In addition, they will be responsible for enhancing Amgen's scientific capabilities in the area cardiovascular-metabolic therapeutic area.Responsibilities:Serve as an internal clinical expert for translational and clinical programs in the Obesity/Cardiometabolic therapeutic areaServe as medical monitor for clinical trials and assists in resolving major issues that may affect the studiesPresent information internally and externally, anticipating and actively handling problems across the spectrum of cross-functional teamsProvide guidance and assistance in the identification and management of phase 1 collaborators, consultants, and/or Clinical Research Organizations (CROs) in completion of key projectsEnsure appropriate training, recruitment, and development requirements for matrix team resourcesWill be the primary Early Development contact for basic scientists in discovery research and for later clinical development research scientistsEvaluate external opportunities for partnership or licensing new cardiovascular-metabolic assetsWinWhat we expect of youWe are all different, yet we all use our unique contributions to serve patients. The medical professional we seek is a leader with these qualifications.Basic Qualifications:MD/DO degree from an accredited medical schoolAND2 years of clinical research experience and/or basic science researchPreferred Qualifications:Subspecialty board eligibility/certification in Internal Medicine, Endocrinology or CardiologyStrong basic science or clinical research background in academia or industryPrior experience authoring, monitoring, analyzing, and presenting clinical trial dataExcellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and the experience of successfully functioning in a highly matrixed team environmentAbility to anticipate problems and find creative solutionsIn-depth understanding of the scientific method and clinical applications based on medical, scientific and practical rationale including working knowledge of biomarker methods and clinical imaging endpointsA record of high quality peer-reviewed publicationsAn understanding of regulatory requirements necessary for the various phases of drug development and experience interacting with regulatorsDemonstrated ability of flexibility, efficiency and diplomacy both individually and as part of a team effortPrevious experience in early phase development and/or biomarker workPrevious experience in late stage clinical trials and regulatory filingsDemonstrated expertise in conducting translational and/or clinical researchExpertise in Spotfire or other data analysis toolsKnowledge of GCP, EMA, and FDA policiesExpertise in authoring clinical sections of CTA or INDsThriveWhat you can expect of usAs we work to develop treatments that take care of others, we also work to care for our teammates’ professional and personal growth and well-being.The annual base salary range for this opportunity in the U.S. is $270,256. - $316,880.
