Overview

Northwest Federal Credit Union is seeking qualified interns for our paid Summer Internship Program at our Corporate Office in Herndon, VA. Our Summer Internship Program is designed to provide college students the opportunity to learn about Northwest Federal and gain meaningful, hands-on experience in a professional environment that aligns with their career goals. This is an 8-week internship program starting on June 2, 2025. The Data Analytics Intern will work with the Data Analytics and Operations (DAO) team to enhance NWFCU data discovery, validation, documentation, and analytics. The candidate will work closely with the data analysts to develop skills that will allow them to sharpen their SQL abilities, assist in the design, implementation, and testing of machine learning models, and realize how information is disseminated within an organization. Responsibilities • Support efforts to enhance the discoverability of data, including efforts to catalog data in tools identified by the DAO team; data documentation, consumption, and management • Assist in the design, implementation, and testing of machine learning models using algorithm development skills • Analyzing data to identify patterns, trends, and insights using statistical methods and techniques • Create visualizations and dashboards to communicate findings to business lines • Adhere to regulatory compliance to data access, information sharing, and protecting personally identifiable information (PII) for members and employees • Follow change control and validation processes for modifications to databases, analyses, and related solutions • Remains cognizant of and adheres to NWFCU policies and procedures as well as regulations pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)

Qualifications

Required • Must be enrolled in a credited university at the junior or senior level in pursuit of a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or Data Analytics • Average 3.0 GPA (transcripts required) • Must be available for our 8-week session from June 2nd through August 1st • Ability to work the hours of 8:00am – 4:30pm Monday through Friday • Basic understanding of supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning algorithms • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R • Basic knowledge of SQL and experience working with databases • Self-motivated to dive in and figure things out and pro-actively reach out for help when necessary • Proficient with MS Office applications Preferred • Understanding of database relationships – Primary Key to Foreign Key • Understanding of basic statistical methods, probability, and linear algebra to apply them to machine learning tasks EEO Notice Northwest Federal Credit Union is an Equal Opportunity Employer and will consider all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, age, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, genetic information, national origin, disability, protected veteran status or any other classification protected by law.
