About the position The Accounting Technician II - Cash Vault at Portland Community College is responsible for performing various cash control, bookkeeping, and accounting functions to support registration processes, treasury, and auxiliary services. This role involves accurately processing and verifying cash deposits and cash/change orders, including counting currency, coin, and checks, entering transactions into the computer, and balancing funds processed daily. The position requires attention to detail and the ability to resolve complex issues related to cash handling. Responsibilities • Perform cash control, bookkeeping, and accounting functions in support of registration processes and treasury services. , • Accurately process and verify cash deposits and cash/change orders. , • Count currency, coin, and checks, and enter transactions into the computer. , • Balance funds processed each day and resolve discrepancies. , • Manage multi-location department cash funds, including reconciliation and balancing cash drawers. , • Forecast cash needs for each campus and ensure acceptable cash and coin levels. , • Utilize ERP systems for understanding entries related to student and vendor accounts. Requirements • High school diploma or equivalent; one year of college-level bookkeeping or general accounting. , • Two years of experience performing accounting or bookkeeping functions, including coding transactions and resolving discrepancies. , • Proficient in various computer applications, including spreadsheet and word processing software. , • Accurate keyboarding and ten-key skills. , • Ability to communicate complex/technical data effectively, both orally and in writing. , • Experience in high volume cash handling in higher education, banking, or retail. Nice-to-haves • 5 years of cashiering, cash handling, or vault services experience. , • Higher education experience. , • Demonstrated reconciliation experience.
