[Remote] Director of Project Management-Utility-Scale Solar
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Castillo Engineering is a fast-growing, mission-driven firm focused on utility-scale solar and battery storage projects. They are seeking a Director of Project Management to lead the project management function, ensuring high-quality delivery and operational excellence across engineering design projects.
Responsibilities
- Lead and scale the project management team supporting utility-scale solar and energy storage engineering projects
- Establish and enforce best practices for project delivery within an Engineering of Record environment
- Oversee portfolio-level performance including scope, schedule, budget, and resource planning
- Drive on-time, high-quality delivery of engineering milestones (30%, 60%, 90%, IFC, Record Drawings, EOR Construction Support)
- Partner closely with engineering leadership (civil, electrical, structural, power systems) to ensure integrated design delivery
- Serve as executive-level point of contact for EPCs, developers, and owners
- Provide leadership on complex project challenges, risk mitigation, and strategic decision-making
- Oversee RFI processes, submittals, design clarifications, and stakeholder communications
- Lead change management across projects, including scope changes, fee negotiations, and schedule adjustments
- Ensure all work meets applicable codes, standards, and EOR obligations
- Build and track KPIs for project execution, team utilization, and client satisfaction
- Mentor, coach, and develop project managers, creating clear career pathways and performance expectations
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, incorporating lessons learned into standards, tools, and workflows
- Support business development efforts, including proposals, client presentations, and contract reviews
- Collaborate with executive leadership on strategic planning and operational scaling
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field (PE license/PMP strongly preferred)
- 10+ years of experience in engineering project management, with significant experience in Engineering of Record (EOR) firms
- Proven experience managing and leading project managers and cross-functional engineering teams
- Deep understanding of engineering design workflows, drawing packages, and EOR responsibilities
- Demonstrated success managing large, complex infrastructure or utility-scale solar projects (50MW+ preferred)
- Strong knowledge of civil, electrical, structural, and power systems engineering scopes
- Expertise in project controls, including scheduling, forecasting, financial management, and resource planning
- Experience interfacing with EPCs, developers, owners, and permitting authorities at a senior level
- Strong commercial acumen, including experience with contracts, scopes of work, and fee negotiations
- Exceptional communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and drive organizational alignment
- PE license/PMP strongly preferred
- Demonstrated success managing large, complex infrastructure or utility-scale solar projects (50MW+ preferred)
