[Remote] Lead Instructional Designer - CTE
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Academian Inc is seeking a Lead Instructional Designer who will provide instructional design leadership for course development teams creating Career and Technical Education (CTE) curriculum. This role involves guiding the instructional development process, ensuring quality and engagement in course designs, and collaborating with AI teams to support scalable course development.
Responsibilities
- Provide instructional design leadership for course development teams across multiple CTE courses or clusters
- Guide instructional designers in translating subject matter expertise into effective course structures, learning activities, and assessments
- Ensure course designs align with established pedagogical frameworks and learner experience standards
- Lead instructional design decisions and quality standards for the onshore and offshore ID teams
- Develop and maintain instructional artifacts such as Course Design Documents (CDDs) / blueprints, storyboards, and lesson structures to establish the expectations for the teams
- Review instructional artifacts such as course outlines, blueprints, storyboards, and lesson structures to ensure instructional coherence and quality
- Ensure alignment between learning objectives, learning activities, and assessments
- Mentor and guide instructional designers to strengthen learner engagement and instructional clarity
- Partner with subject matter experts to translate technical content into accessible and developmentally appropriate learning experience
- Ensure industry-relevant examples and applied learning activities are incorporated effectively into course design
- Ensure course designs leverage the functionality of the client’s digital learning platform, including interaction types, embedded assessments, and scenario-based activities
- Provide guidance to instructional teams on designing activities that align with platform capabilities
- Create and revise AI prompts to develop instructional content
- Collaborate with prompt engineers and instructional leadership to ensure AI-assisted course generation aligns with instructional design standards
- Review AI-generated instructional content to ensure accuracy, coherence, and alignment with course objectives
- Ensure instructional designs support accessibility expectations and inclusive learning practices
- Help maintain consistency across course modules and clusters during scaled development
Skills
- Master's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related field
- 8+ years of experience designing digital learning experiences or curriculum
- Experience leading instructional design efforts for multi-course or program-level curriculum initiatives
- Strong understanding of instructional design frameworks and learner-centered learning design
- Experience collaborating with SMEs, instructional designers, editors, and development teams
- Experience reviewing instructional artifacts such as storyboards, blueprints, and lesson structures
- Experience designing Career and Technical Education (CTE) curriculum
- Experience working with digital learning platforms or proprietary courseware systems
- Experience designing applied learning experiences such as simulations or scenario-based learning
- Experience supporting AI-assisted instructional design workflows
- Experience working on large-scale curriculum development
