Our Data & Analytics organization is the engine that powers this transformation. The team builds robust, low‑latency data pipelines, designs sophisticated data products, and supports cutting‑edge AI models that drive recommendation engines, content discovery, and operational efficiencies. As a Senior Data Engineer, you will join a high‑performing, collaborative group that values curiosity, technical excellence, and a relentless drive to solve complex problems at scale.

Why This Role Matters

In today’s hyper‑connected world, the ability to process massive volumes of data in real time is a competitive advantage. At arenaflex, the data you help build and maintain will directly influence the experiences of millions of viewers worldwide. From optimizing streaming quality to personalizing content recommendations, your work will have a tangible impact on both the business and the end‑user. This is an opportunity to shape the future of entertainment technology while advancing your own career in a supportive, forward‑thinking environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain highly scalable, low‑latency data pipelines that ingest, transform, and store petabyte‑scale datasets from a variety of sources, including clickstream logs, content metadata, and user interaction events.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, data scientists, and software engineers to translate business requirements into robust data solutions that enable real‑time analytics and machine‑learning model training.
  • Implement and optimize streaming data processing frameworks such as Apache Flink, Apache Spark Structured Streaming, and Kafka Streams to ensure reliable, fault‑tolerant data flow.
  • Build and manage both batch and streaming data storage solutions, including data lakes on cloud object storage, columnar warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift), and NoSQL databases (e.g., Cassandra, DynamoDB).
  • Develop and expose well‑documented APIs and services (REST, gRPC) that allow downstream teams to access curated data products efficiently and securely.
  • Ensure data quality, consistency, and observability by implementing comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and logging strategies using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry.
  • Participate in on‑call rotations and incident response for 24/7 production systems, proactively identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks, latency spikes, and data integrity issues.
  • Mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and champion best practices in software engineering, data modeling, and DevOps automation.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices, and evaluate their applicability to enhance arenaflex’s data architecture.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the team’s development workflow, including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and infrastructure‑as‑code (IaC) practices.

Essential Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional experience designing, building, and operating large‑scale data platforms in a production environment.
  • Strong proficiency in at least one JVM language (Java or Scala) and deep expertise in SQL (ANSI‑SQL, PostgreSQL, or equivalent).
  • Hands‑on experience with distributed streaming frameworks (e.g., Apache Flink, Apache Spark Structured Streaming) and message brokers such as Apache Kafka.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain high‑throughput, low‑latency data pipelines that serve real‑time analytics and machine‑learning workloads.
  • Solid understanding of data modeling concepts, including schema design for both relational and NoSQL databases.
  • Experience designing and implementing RESTful and gRPC APIs, with familiarity in frameworks like Spring Boot, Dropwizard, or Micronaut.
  • Proven track record of operating 24/7 production systems, including incident management, root‑cause analysis, and post‑mortem documentation.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills, with the ability to think abstractly about system design while delivering concrete, production‑ready solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of articulating complex technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and associated services such as S3, Kinesis, Dataflow, or Azure Event Hubs.
  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes) for deploying data services at scale.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure‑as‑code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation) and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI).
  • Exposure to machine‑learning pipelines and model serving frameworks (TensorFlow Serving, MLflow, or similar).
  • Contributions to open‑source projects or a strong presence in the data engineering community.
  • Experience with data governance, security, and compliance standards (GDPR, CCPA, SOC 2).

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Technical Excellence: Ability to write clean, maintainable, and performant code; strong debugging and profiling skills.
  • Scalability Mindset: Design systems that gracefully handle growth in data volume, velocity, and variety.

  • Collaboration: Work effectively within cross‑functional teams, fostering a culture of shared ownership and continuous feedback.
