[Remote] Operational and Technical Accounting Team Member

They are seeking an Operational and Technical Accounting Team Member to lead accounting operations, ensuring financial accuracy and compliance while supporting decision-making across various teams. This role involves mentoring a team, overseeing financial processes, and providing technical accounting expertise to drive operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the operational accounting team responsible for accounting activities across Intersect's energy portfolio
  • Mentor, develop, and support team members through coaching, training, performance management, and career development
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performing team culture focused on accountability, continuous improvement, and professional growth
  • Manage evolving priorities and support special projects that contribute to organizational objectives
  • Oversee general ledger activities to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of financial information
  • Partner across functions to support organizational goals and improve financial transparency
  • Consolidate and optimize month-end close processes to enable faster, more accurate reporting
  • Perform and support internal control activities to strengthen financial reporting and compliance
  • Evaluate accounting processes, workflows, and systems to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Leverage technology, automation, and process enhancements to increase efficiency and reduce risk
  • Monitor operational effectiveness and implement scalable solutions that support company growth
  • Help establish and maintain best practices across accounting operations
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on U.S. GAAP and emerging accounting standards
  • Research, analyze, and document technical accounting conclusions for complex and non-routine transactions
  • Support accounting matters related to revenue recognition, stock-based compensation, leases, consolidations, impairment assessments, debt transactions, and other corporate accounting topics
  • Monitor proposed accounting guidance and disclosure requirements and assess impacts on the business
  • Maintain and enhance accounting policies and procedures to support effective internal controls over financial reporting
  • Assist with annual audit activities and serve as a key partner to external auditors
  • Prepare technical accounting memoranda and supporting documentation to ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards
  • Help drive consistent application of accounting policies across the organization

Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 5–7+ years of accounting experience, including at least 3 years in Big Four public accounting audit
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, technical accounting research, and financial reporting requirements
  • Experience supporting SOX compliance and internal control environments
  • Proven ability to evaluate complex accounting issues, develop recommendations, and document conclusions effectively
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace and intermediate Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, and SUMIF functions
  • CPA and/or Master's degree in Accounting
  • Experience with Sage Intacct
  • Experience in the energy, infrastructure, or power generation industry
  • Demonstrated ability to apply technical accounting guidance to complex business transactions
  • Collaborative, detail-oriented, and adaptable approach to problem solving
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and driving positive change
