[Remote] Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Atlas Connections is partnering with a mission-critical infrastructure company to find a Senior Mechanical Engineer specializing in data center cooling systems. The role involves leading the mechanical design and controls for complex data center projects, managing designs from concept through commissioning, and ensuring efficiency in mechanical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop mechanical system designs for data center cooling, including airflow, chilled water, refrigerant, and HVAC systems
  • Perform heat load and energy calculations, and analyze energy performance across projects to drive efficiency
  • Size and select major mechanical equipment such as chillers, CRAC/CRAH units, cooling towers, pumps, and air handlers
  • Produce construction documents, schematics, and specifications, and develop sequences of operation for controls
  • Build and coordinate Revit models with electrical, structural, and controls disciplines, including clash detection and BIM coordination
  • Interpret design concepts with engineering staff and translate documentation, quotes, and drawings into buildable cooling designs
  • Review submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings, and revise designs as change orders and client needs evolve
  • Coordinate and support commissioning, including factory witness testing where needed

Skills

  • Bachelor's in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering
  • Active PE certification
  • Direct data center experience, ideally supporting hyperscale clients
  • 6+ years across mechanical design, project planning, construction, and commissioning
  • Strong HVAC systems and controls background, including equipment selection and sizing
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD MEP, and Procore
  • Proven experience leading design across multiple buildings
  • A producer mindset with the appetite to grow into team leadership
  • Master's in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering
  • CEM or LEED certification
