About the Role

Our client, a dynamic energy trading firm, is actively seeking a highly motivated and skilled Energy Trader to join their operations. This challenging role, based in Des Moines, Iowa, US , involves managing and executing trading strategies across various energy commodities, including natural gas, electricity, and related derivatives. The successful candidate will be responsible for optimizing trading positions, managing risk, and identifying profitable market opportunities. Key Responsibilities

Develop and execute trading strategies in physical and financial energy markets. Monitor market conditions, news, and events that may impact trading positions. Analyze supply and demand fundamentals, weather patterns, and geopolitical factors influencing energy prices. Manage and mitigate trading risks through hedging and position management. Optimize trading profitability by identifying and capitalizing on arbitrage and spread opportunities. Collaborate with risk management and analytics teams to ensure compliance and performance. Maintain detailed trading records and provide reports on market activity and P&L. Build and maintain relationships with market participants and brokers. Stay informed about regulatory changes and market developments affecting energy trading. Utilize trading platforms and analytical tools to support decision-making.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field. Minimum of 3 years of experience in energy trading, commodity trading, or financial trading. Proven track record of successful trading strategies and risk management. Strong understanding of electricity and natural gas markets, including their structures and drivers. Excellent analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in financial modeling and data analysis tools. Ability to work effectively under pressure and make quick, informed decisions. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively. Familiarity with energy trading platforms and regulatory frameworks. High level of integrity and ethical conduct.
