Sr. Manager, Security Engineering

Remote · USA Full-time New today

Material Security was founded to protect the world's most sensitive data, starting with the most vulnerable point of entry: email. As the Security Engineering Manager, you will lead the team responsible for our flagship product. You will lead the team responsible for defending our entire organization and our product infrastructure. You will manage our Security Engineering function, spanning Application, Infrastructure, and Corporate security. We are looking for a "builder-manager"—someone who can set a long-term strategic vision for our security programs while staying close enough to the code to help with alert triage, detection development, and architectural design. If you are a high-agency leader who thrives in high-stakes environments, we want to talk to you.

Responsibilities

Lead a team of security engineers, fostering a culture of ownership and engineering excellence. Own the holistic security roadmap, balancing proactive projects with security operations. Be "hands-on" with critical alert triage, incident response, and detection engineering to maintain our security posture. Partner with Product and Engineering leaders to implement "security-by-design," advocating for security investments that enable (rather than block) velocity. Manage our CorpSec/IT functions, including onboarding, endpoint security, and compliance, ensuring these run efficiently and without friction. Lead the way in securely adopting AI across the organization and product. What We’re Looking For Proven experience as a strong IC in security or infrastructure engineering, with a track record of successfully transitioning into engineering management. Deep technical fluency in at least one security domain (Detection, AppSec, or InfraSec) and the ability to contribute technically to code or design reviews. Demonstrated ability to drive a complex security strategy across organizational boundaries (e.g., working with PMs/Product). Operational discipline: You treat security operations (on-call, alerts, incidents) with a high level of rigor. Startup agility: A low-ego, "roll-up-your-sleeves" attitude; you are a leader who executes, not just directs. -- Material Security is a remote-first workplace with an office in San Francisco, California.
