As the company continues to expand its remote workforce, arenaflex is seeking a seasoned Senior Data Engineer who thrives in a collaborative, fast‑paced environment and is passionate about turning complex data sets into clear, business‑impacting solutions.

Why This Role Matters

In today’s hyper‑connected marketplace, the ability to ingest, cleanse, and analyze data from a multitude of sources is a competitive advantage. As a Senior Data Engineer at arenaflex, you will be at the heart of the organization’s data strategy, shaping the way information from in‑store operations, e‑commerce platforms, call centers, and third‑party partners is unified, stored, and visualized. Your work will directly influence the customer experience, operational efficiency, and strategic planning across the entire arenaflex ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Integration & Pipeline Development: Design, build, and maintain robust ETL pipelines that ingest data from diverse sources—including point‑of‑sale systems, web services, CRM platforms, and logistics databases—into Google BigQuery.
  • Data Warehouse Management: Own the architecture and health of the arenaflex data warehouse, ensuring data integrity, optimal performance, and scalability to support growing analytical workloads.
  • Business Intelligence Solutions: Create intuitive, high‑impact dashboards and reports using industry‑leading BI tools such as MicroStrategy and SAS, translating complex data into clear visual narratives for stakeholders.
  • Collaboration & Requirements Gathering: Partner with product owners, data scientists, and senior leadership to understand business needs, translate them into technical specifications, and deliver data‑driven solutions.
  • Automation & Optimization: Identify repetitive reporting tasks and automate them using Python, SQL, and workflow orchestration tools, reducing manual effort and increasing reliability.
  • Data Quality & Governance: Implement rigorous QA processes, data validation checks, and documentation standards to maintain a trusted data environment.
  • Industry Insight & Best Practices: Stay abreast of emerging trends in data engineering, retail analytics, and cloud technologies, and champion best practices across the arenaflex data community.
  • Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing: Provide guidance to junior engineers and analysts, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 5+ years of hands‑on experience in data engineering, with a proven track record of building large‑scale data pipelines in a cloud environment.
  • Deep expertise in SQL, specifically Google BigQuery, including query optimization and cost‑management techniques.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, with experience developing reusable libraries and automation scripts.
  • Proficiency with data integration tools and concepts such as data stitching, data blending, and data federation.
  • Hands‑on experience with BI platforms (MicroStrategy, SAS, Tableau, Power BI, or similar) to develop dashboards and self‑service reporting solutions.
  • Solid understanding of data modeling, schema design, and data warehousing best practices.
  • Excellent analytical mindset with the ability to translate business problems into technical solutions.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey complex technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications & Nice‑to‑Have Skills

  • Experience in the retail or consumer‑goods industry, particularly with point‑of‑sale and e‑commerce data sources.
  • Familiarity with additional programming languages such as Java or Scala.
  • Knowledge of containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes) for scalable pipeline deployment.
  • Exposure to machine‑learning pipelines and collaboration with data science teams.
  • Certification in Google Cloud Platform (Professional Data Engineer) or similar cloud credentials.
  • Understanding of data privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA) and implementation of compliance controls.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to dissect large data sets, identify patterns, and draw actionable conclusions.
  • Problem‑Solving: Proactive approach to troubleshooting pipeline failures, performance bottlenecks, and data quality issues.
  • Collaboration: Strong team player who works effectively across functional groups, including product, marketing, finance, and operations.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable navigating a fast‑changing environment, quickly learning new tools and technologies.
  • Attention to Detail: Commitment to delivering accurate, reliable data solutions that stakeholders can trust.
