Key Responsibilities

The Paraprofessional role is multifaceted, blending instructional support with student mentorship. Your daily duties will include, but are not be limited to:

  • Assist classroom teachers in creating a positive, safe, and academically challenging learning environment.
  • Provide one‑on‑one or small‑group assistance to students who need extra help with reading, math, or other core subjects.
  • Help prepare instructional materials, set up classroom technology, and organize learning stations.
  • Monitor student behavior, implement classroom management strategies, and reinforce school policies.
  • Support students with individualized education plans (IEPs) by delivering accommodations and modifications as directed.
  • Facilitate classroom transitions, such as moving between activities or exiting the room for recess, ensuring safety and order.
  • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and administrators to identify student needs and develop tailored support strategies.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and any incidents, reporting them to the supervising teacher.
  • Participate in professional development workshops, staff meetings, and community events to stay current on best practices.
  • Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating respect, empathy, and a growth mindset for all students.

Essential Qualifications

To succeed in this role, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Be at least 19 years of age.
  • Possess one of the following educational credentials:
    • Bachelor’s degree or higher; OR
    • 60 semester hours of college coursework; OR
    • High school diploma or equivalent + a passing score on the ACT WorkKeys Test or ETS ParaPro Test.
  • Hold one of the following licenses:
    • Professional Educator’s License (PEL); OR
    • Substitute License (SUB); OR
    • Educator License with Stipulations (ELS‑PARA).
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Show a genuine passion for supporting diverse learners and a commitment to inclusive education.

Preferred Qualifications & Additional Skills

While not mandatory, the following attributes will set you apart from other candidates:

  • Experience working in a K‑12 setting, particularly with middle or high school students.
  • Familiarity with individualized education plans (IEPs) and the ability to implement accommodations effectively.
  • Basic proficiency with educational technology tools (e.g., Google Classroom, interactive whiteboards, learning management systems).
  • First Aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain it within the first six months of employment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team‑oriented environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and the capacity to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
