Legal Office Assistant
The North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is seeking a Legal Office Assistant to support the Board of Industrial Insurance Appeals. This role involves performing routine clerical and technical legal support functions, including auditing electronic appeal files and preparing correspondence.
Responsibilities
- Reviewing and auditing electronic appeal files for accuracy, ensuring that documents are saved, named, and dated appropriately, and that parties are entered accurately
- Preparing routine correspondence
- Entering docketing and data into the agency's electronic case management system
- Auditing files prior to final documents being printed and mailed
- Initiating routine phone calls to research or verify information
Skills
- High School graduation or GED and two (2) years of clerical or administrative experience. A bachelor's degree in any field will substitute for the required experience

- A two-year degree or higher in Legal Secretary Studies, Paralegal Studies, or a related field
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Exceptional proofreading, editing, and typing skills
- Ability to perform research
- Ability to assist customers regarding inquiries, complaints, or problems
- Ability to multitask, prioritize workload, and effectively manage time
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Outlook
- Knowledge of workers' compensation
