Senior Lead Backend Developer – Capital Markets Location: Remote (EST/CST) Contract Type: W2 Position Overview We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Backend Lead Developer to support a large-scale Capital Markets Technology Transformation initiative. This is a hands-on lead role focused on backend architecture and development across multiple Agile teams. The ideal candidate has strong experience building scalable API-first backend services, modernizing legacy systems, and establishing engineering best practices across development, testing, and delivery. This role requires deep backend development expertise, strong technical leadership, and the ability to work cross-functionally with engineering teams, product stakeholders, and enterprise architecture partners. Core Areas of Expertise Candidates should have demonstrated experience across several of the following domains: Backend Engineering Leadership (Multi-Team Agile Delivery) .NET / C# Enterprise Application Development REST API Design + Swagger/OpenAPI Documentation SQL Server + Data Access Layer Development (Dapper ORM) Distributed Caching / High-Throughput Performance Systems (Apache Ignite, MemSQL, etc.) Event-Driven Architecture + Messaging (Solace, SignalR, etc.) CI/CD Pipelines + SDLC Governance (Jenkins, Helios, Git branching strategy) Observability / Logging Tools (ELK, Splunk, Serilog, etc.) TDD + Automated Unit Testing (xUnit, NUnit) Modernization / Legacy Platform Transformation

Key Responsibilities

Lead backend development efforts across multiple Agile scrum teams supporting a capital markets transformation program. Build and execute scalable backend architectures aligned to enterprise engineering standards. Design and implement modern RESTful backend services using .NET / C# with high-quality documentation via Swagger/OpenAPI. Develop optimized data access layers and backend services using SQL Server and Dapper ORM. Implement performance and scalability improvements through distributed caching technologies (e.g., Apache Ignite, MemSQL). Support event-driven and real-time integrations using technologies such as Solace and SignalR. Enforce strong engineering standards through code reviews, mentoring, and design guidance across multiple teams. Drive best practices for exception handling, layered architecture, maintainability, and secure backend design. Promote and implement TDD and unit testing frameworks (xUnit, NUnit) to improve reliability and quality. Partner with CI/CD and DevOps stakeholders to support automated delivery using Jenkins / Helios, and align development workflows with SDLC policy. Contribute to modernization initiatives, including re-writes and migration efforts, ensuring stable production-ready delivery.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience. 10+ years of hands-on backend development experience in enterprise environments. Proven backend development expertise using .NET / C#, including API-first design and microservices patterns. Strong experience with relational databases and backend performance tuning (SQL Server preferred). Demonstrated experience building REST APIs and documenting them using Swagger/OpenAPI. Strong experience developing with Dapper ORM (or comparable ORM/data access frameworks). Experience with distributed caching, messaging, and high-throughput backend system design. Strong understanding of unit testing practices and frameworks (xUnit, NUnit) and TDD principles. Ability to operate independently, lead technical delivery, and influence engineering standards across teams. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate in fast-paced transformation environments. Preferred Experience Capital Markets domain exposure (trading, markets infrastructure, brokerage platforms, etc.). Experience working in large-scale transformation programs or modernization initiatives. Front-end familiarity with React or Angular to support cross-team delivery alignment. Experience with enterprise observability tooling (ELK, Splunk, or similar). Strong experience defining and implementing CI/CD and branching strategies aligned to SDLC governance. Apply To This Job
