About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Life & Disability Insurance Underwriter to support production underwriting across multiple product types and underwriting models, including both traditional and accelerated programs. This role works within the IBU/OMNIGO platform and/or directly within Client Partner systems to deliver accurate, timely, and consistent underwriting decisions aligned with client goals.As a senior contributor, you will apply advanced medical and risk assessment expertise, exercise sound judgment, and adapt quickly to evolving underwriting requirements. You may also support automated underwriting initiatives through rule interpretation, guideline application, and collaboration with internal and external partners. What You’ll DoUnderwriting & Risk Assessment

  • Independently evaluate life and disability insurance applications using medical records, prescription histories, laboratory results, MIB reports, and other underwriting data sources.
  • Assess mortality and morbidity risk and assign appropriate risk classifications in accordance with underwriting guidelines and client-specific requirements.
  • Analyze prescription drug histories, dosages, refill patterns, and medical conditions for risk relevance.
  • Identify discrepancies across application data, medical evidence, and third-party sources.
  • Utilize reinsurance underwriting manuals (e.g., Swiss Re, Gen Re, Hannover/ASCENT) to support balanced and defensible decisions.

Quality, Productivity & Compliance

  • Consistently meet or exceed accuracy, turnaround time, and productivity expectations.
  • Ensure complete, clear, and timely documentation throughout the underwriting process.
  • Accurately track production and workflow metrics.
  • Maintain strict compliance with privacy, confidentiality, and data security standards.

Client & Team Collaboration

  • Apply and support client- and partner-specific underwriting rules and workflows.
  • Communicate underwriting decisions and case status with agents, applicants, client partners, medical directors, and internal teams.
  • Collaborate with management to identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Mentor and support less-experienced underwriters as needed.

  • Adapt quickly to changing priorities, guidelines, and workloads.
  • Maintain a detail-oriented, disciplined approach to underwriting decisions and continuous learning.

What We’re Looking ForExperience & Education

  • 7+ years of Life and/or Health underwriting experience, with demonstrated progression to a senior-level role.
  • Proven expertise in evaluating underwriting data sources and determining mortality/morbidity impacts.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience.
  • LOMA and/or ALU coursework or designations preferred.

Technical & Medical Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of human anatomy, physiology, and disease processes.
  • Proficiency in medical terminology and abbreviations.
  • Solid knowledge of common laboratory tests and clinical relevance.
  • Experience with MIB reports, coding procedures, and prescription drug indications.
  • Familiarity with underwriting tools, automated underwriting rules, and solution implementation is a plus.
