Due to continued growth, our Power Delivery group is seeking a Substation Designer – Physical Designer in one of the following office locations: 

  • Dallas, TX 
  • Houston, TX

  • Overland Park, KS 
  • Kennesaw, GA

Responsibilities:

Imagine a day where you’re designing the backbone of the power grid—drafting substation layouts and details that keep energy flowing safely. You collaborate with engineers across disciplines, solve real-world challenges, and see your designs come to life in the field. Every detail you contribute will help power entire communities—safely, reliably, and sustainably. 

  • Substation Design & Drafting: Develop electric substation drawings, including General Arrangements, Elevations, Conduit Plans/Details, Grounding Plans/Details, Foundation Plans, Lightning Protection plans, and control building layouts. Work closely with the Civil Engineering department to develop substation foundation and structure detail drawings 
  • Engineering Analysis & Calculations: Perform substation design calculations lightning protection, voltage drop, and conduit fill
  • Collaboration & Quality Assurance: Work closely with peers to ensure accurate and on-time delivery of electrical design that meets client and industry standards, specifications, and good engineering practices 
  • Field Support: Providing on-site technical support for select ENERCON clients during construction and commissioning as required  
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Substation designing, with a primary focus on executing physical design projects
  • Familiarity with relay protection schemes
  • Experience with MicroStation and AutoCAD
  • Willingness to enter energized electric substations with proper training and PPE
  • Must be self-driven in time management to meet deadlines and provide accurate deliverables, with the ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Must be proficient with typical office software including Microsoft Windows and Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Willingness to travel for client site visits and project meetings 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience working in electric utility industry, preferably in fast-paced consulting environment 
  • 500kV substation design experience 
Pay Range: USD $65,600.00 - USD $90,000.00 /Yr. Additional Information:

When salary range is listed it reflects typical compensation for this role based on level and location. Actual pay depends on experience, skills, and education.
