Power BI Developer - Operational Reporting

Please note: This is a Brazil-based role and we are only considering candidates located in Brazil. Work will be performed remotely within the country. The Power BI Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining data visualizations and operational reports that enable business decision-making. This role ensures accuracy, performance, and usability of reports across enterprise systems using SQL Server as the primary data source. The developer will transform raw data into meaningful insights, standardize datasets for enterprise analytics, and ensure compliance with established data governance, modeling, and visualization standards.

Responsibilities

Job Content and Duties

  • Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards, operational reports, and datasets.

  • Build reports that connect directly to SQL Server views and stored procedures for real-time or near real-time operational insights.

  • Create efficient data models (Star Schema or Snowflake) optimized for performance and scalability.

  • Develop and validate DAX measures, Power Query transformations, and visualizations following best practices.

  • Collaborate with business users to translate reporting needs into actionable analytics solutions.

  • Implement row-level security (RLS) and manage user access within Power BI Service.

  • Support data validation, performance tuning, and report optimization activities.

  • Develop semantic models and standardized datasets for self-service and reusable analytics.

  • Participate in CI/CD processes and version control using GitHub.

  • Document report logic, data sources, and model definitions to support maintainability and governance.

  • Ensure compliance with enterprise data quality, integrity, and governance standards.

  • Partner with IT and business system teams to align operational reporting with organizational KPIs and performance frameworks.

Job Competencies

  • Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail and data accuracy.

  • Proficiency in Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, DAX, and Power Query (M).

  • Advanced SQL skills for querying, joining, and aggregating data from multiple tables.

  • Solid understanding of data modeling principles and relational database design.

  • Experience building operational and analytical reports from SQL Server views.

  • Ability to troubleshoot performance issues in datasets, queries, and visuals.

  • Working knowledge of data governance, metadata, and semantic modeling.

  • Effective communication and collaboration skills with technical and business stakeholders.

  • Understanding of version control, deployment pipelines, and security principles.

  • Capability to balance multiple reporting projects in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or related discipline.

  • 3–5 years of experience in developing Power BI reports and data models.

  • Proven experience in SQL Server based operational reporting environments.

  • Hands-on experience with views, stored procedures, and optimized SQL queries.

  • Familiarity with Azure Data Lake, Fabric, or other cloud data platforms preferred.
