Financial Aid Customer Service Representative

Columbia Southern University is seeking a Financial Aid Customer Service Representative to assist students with their financial aid inquiries. The primary responsibilities include answering incoming calls, processing financial aid documentation, and maintaining compliance with educational privacy regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Answers incoming calls and address all questions/concerns
  • Responds to rotation emails
  • Accurately records and posts incoming financial aid documentation to student record
  • Identifies missing or incomplete information and resolves through communication with the student
  • Processes in-school deferments and skip-tracing, as needed
  • Maintains Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) compliance while conducting all assigned duties
  • Performs special projects and other duties as assigned

Skills

  • High school diploma or the equivalent; and one to three months related experience and/or training in Financial Aid or a related field
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar
  • Knowledge of university guidelines, course descriptions, and academic terminology
  • Knowledge of office administrative procedures including word processing, managing files and records, typing, and other office procedures
  • Knowledge of basic computer processes including word processing, web browsing, and Microsoft Office including Basic Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics
  • Uses logic and reasoning to look at different types of information in order to make conclusions and work through problems
  • Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents
  • Locates key facts and information in order to learn more about different types of information
  • Communicates and interacts with people effectively while being aware of social perceptions
  • Manages one's own time to accomplish assigned tasks
  • Thoroughness and accuracy when accomplishing a task ensuring all aspects are reviewed
  • The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand
  • The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand
  • The ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted
