About the Program

We are looking to hire a highly motivated Security Analyst Intern to join our Information Security Team. This internship provides hands-on experience in identifying and mitigating security threats, monitoring networks, and supporting the organization’s cybersecurity initiatives. The ideal candidate has a passion for cybersecurity, attention to detail, and a strong analytical mindset. 

Symetra's Internship Program for Summer 2026 is entirely remote - all interns will learn and work in a virtual setting. The internship duration is 12 weeks, running from May 18 – August 7 or June 15 – September 4. 

Potential projects, responsibilities, & opportunities: 

  • Monitor Security Systems: Assist in monitoring security tools, including SIEM, firewalls, IDS/IPS, to detect and respond to threats 
  • Threat Analysis and Investigation: With help from senior team member, analyze security alerts, investigate potential incidents, and escalate issues as needed 
  • Vulnerability Assessment: Support vulnerability scans, and penetration testing efforts to identify security vulnerabilities 
  • Audit Support: Receive audit reports and help manage responses from owners and remediation plans.  
  • Incident Response Support: Assist in documenting and responding to security incidents under the guidance of senior analyst on the team 
  • Security Awareness and Compliance: Help develop cybersecurity training modules and ensure compliance with security policies 

  

Your education, experience, and skills

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field 
  • Basic understanding of network security, firewalls, encryption, and security protocols 
  • Experience with SIEM tools 
  • Familiarity with ethical hacking, penetration testing, or security frameworks (NIST, ISO 27001) 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
