Don Shaw Law, PLLC is a boutique estate planning and probate firm with offices in Arlington and Woodbridge, Virginia. We also operate a high-volume virtual estate planning practice serving clients across Virginia, DC, Maryland, and West Virginia. We are a lean, tech-forward team that values efficiency, accuracy, and clear communication.

The Role

We are looking for a detail-oriented, reliable part-time bookkeeper to handle ongoing financial recordkeeping for our two related legal entities. This is a remote-friendly position requiring roughly 8–12 hours per month, with availability to answer occasional quick questions and handle month-end close tasks on a predictable schedule.

You will be our primary point of contact for day-to-day bookkeeping — not a support hotline, not a rotating team. We want someone who learns our accounts, knows our vendors, and owns the books.

What You Will Do

•      Maintain accurate books for two business entities (separate P&Ls)

•      Categorize and reconcile transactions monthly

•      Manage accounts payable and track vendor payments

•      Reconcile bank and credit card accounts

•      Generate monthly financial reports (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow)

•      Coordinate with our CPA at tax time and provide requested reports

•      Flag anything that looks off and bring it to our attention proactively

What This Role Does Not Include

We handle client trust accounting separately through dedicated legal banking software. You will not be responsible for IOLTA or trust account reconciliation. Payroll is handled externally. This role is focused squarely on general business bookkeeping.

What We Are Looking For

•      2+ years of bookkeeping experience, preferably with small businesses or professional service firms

•      Proficiency in QuickBooks Online, Wave, Zoho Books, or similar — we are flexible on platform

•      Comfortable working independently with minimal hand-holding

•      Responsive communicator — we do not need daily check-ins, but we do need timely replies

•      Familiarity with law firm or professional services accounting is a plus, not a requirement

•      QuickBooks ProAdvisor certification or similar credential is a plus

Compensation

Fixed price monthly retainer based on scope, or hourly rate of $30–$45/hour depending on experience. We are open to discussing structure based on your preference and how you typically work with small business clients.
