Staff Accountant

Position Summary: The Staff Accountant is responsible for performing a wide variety of financial and accounting tasks to ensure accurate and timely reporting of the company’s financial status. This includes maintaining financial records, preparing financial statements, managing accounts payable and receivable, and assisting in audits and tax filings. The staff accountant will work closely with the finance team to support day-to-day operations and contribute to the overall financial health of the organization.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Financial Recordkeeping

Process and verify invoices and payment requests in accordance with company policies.

·        Ensure accurate coding of invoices and proper documentation for approvals.

·        Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies. Prepare and execute payment runs, including checks and electronic payments.

·        Collaborate with other departments to resolve payment-related inquiries.

·        Maintain vendor records and ensure compliance with tax regulations (e.g., W-9 forms).

Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, including balance sheet and income statement accounts. Prepare accurate and timely journal entries for transactions. Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting principles, and regulations.

·        Bank Reconciliations

·        Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations.

·        Investigate and resolve any discrepancies in cash balances or transaction records.

·        Tax Compliance

Support third party firm in preparing and filing tax returns

·        Budgeting & Forecasting

·        Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts.

·        Monitor actual performance against budget, identifying and reporting variances.

·        Audit Support

·        Assist with internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.

·        Implement audit recommendations and assist with the resolution of audit findings.

·        Process Improvement

·        Identify opportunities for process improvements in accounting workflows.

·        Support the implementation of new financial systems or tools to enhance efficiency.

Other Duties as Assigned

·        Assist with special accounting projects or ad-hoc financial analysis as required.

·        Provide general support to the finance team and other departments as needed.

Required Skills/Abilities:

·        Strong knowledge of GAAP, accounting principles, and financial reporting.

·        Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.).

·        Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar ERP systems).

·        Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

·        Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

·        Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

·        Ability to relate to people at all levels of an organization and possesses excellent communication skills

·        Sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment, and strong operational focus

·        Ability to work with peers in a team effort

·        Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays in alignment with departmental and industry demands

Education/Experience:

·        Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field or alternatively an Associates degree in related field plus applicable experience.

·        Prior experience in Pharmacy or PBM preferred.

·        Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in an accounting or finance role.

·        Experience in general ledger accounting, accounts payable/receivable, and financial reporting.

Preferred Skill/Abilities:

·        Prior experience in Retail, Mail Order of Specialty Pharmacy, PBM, pharmaceutical or managed health care industry preferred.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

·        Typical office environment, with minimal exposure to excessive noise or adverse environmental issues.

·        Home-based office environment, with minimal exposure to excessive noise or adverse environmental issues,

·        Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time.

·        Ability to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time.
