Bridge Engineering Inspector
GFT is a privately held AEC firm seeking a Bridge Engineering Inspector to support their Bridge team in Connecticut. The role involves participating in structural engineering assignments, conducting inspections, and assisting in the preparation of engineering reports to enhance transportation infrastructure and ensure safe travel for communities.
Responsibilities
- Participate in structural engineering assignments under the direct supervision of a senior engineer
- Perform engineering calculations, structural analyses and prepare CADD drawings as required
- Take part as a member of a field crew on structure inspection assignments
- Take photos & measurements; produce sketches
- Operate personnel lift equipment, climb ladders, install traffic control devices and other work in support of inspection activities
- Assist in the preparation of engineering reports documenting inspection findings
- Other duties as may be assigned to meet business needs
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in engineering
- Experience operating bucket trucks, manlifts, or under-bridge inspection vehicles
- Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
- Experience using CADD software such as AutoCAD or Bentley MicroStation
- Successful completion of the EIT Exam
- Completion of the following: NHI Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges (FHWA-NHI-130055), NHI Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges and/ or Bridge Inspection Techniques Non-Redundant Steel Tension Members (NSTM's) (FHWA-NHI-130078)
- Exposure to NDT methods or interest in learning them
- FAA Part 107 drone certification
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or structural analysis tools
