Business Systems Analyst – Commercial and Credit Banking

The Commercial and Credit Banking team delivers and supports technology across Credit, Web, Payments, Capital Markets, and Treasury. We build secure, innovative solutions that empower customers to conduct business efficiently while driving measurable business value. We are seeking a Senior Business Analyst to lead moderately complex to complex initiatives from proposal through post-implementation. This role bridges business needs and technology execution, ensuring applications meet user expectations and regulatory standards. You will serve as a functional lead, mentor junior analysts, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Lead functional design and testing efforts for enterprise-wide initiatives, compliance requirements, and BAU system enhancements. Prepare detailed functional specifications, test plans, and test cases; execute and validate results. Facilitate backlog reviews and proactively identify gaps in user stories—asking “what-if” questions to ensure completeness. Collaborate with product owners to validate implementation accuracy and business alignment. Engage in data modeling and ERD diagram interpretation to support system integration and conversion efforts. Coordinate with vendors and internal teams to ensure seamless implementation and post-launch stability. Act as Test Coordinator for large initiatives involving multiple applications and teams. Support Commercial Customer Onboarding applications and related systems. Monitor scope, regulatory compliance, and adherence to Corporate Technology standards. Drive resolution of issues during testing and post-implementation phases. Promote a culture of belonging and innovation aligned with the M&T Bank brand.

Required Qualifications

Minimum of 5 years’ combined experience in business analytics, operations, or higher education. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and time management abilities. Proficiency in personal computing and relevant software tools. Demonstrated ability to mentor and lead cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree. Subject matter expertise in commercial banking applications and systems. Experience with Jira or similar backlog management tools. Familiarity with application development platforms and banking frameworks. Ability to write complete user stories and identify gaps in existing documentation. Strong curiosity and analytical mindset—testing beyond documented boundaries. Experience supporting commercial customer onboarding or similar enterprise applications. Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively across technical teams. Understanding of bank acquisition methodology or conversion experience.
