Job Summary

As a Patient Coordinator, you will be responsible for:

  • Serving as the first point of contact for patients seeking medical assistance and support from their doctor
  • Building trust with patients and providing compassion and empathy using customized scripting
  • Accurately documenting patients' needs prior to speaking with a nurse
  • Providing exceptional customer service and support to patients
  • Working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapting to changing priorities

Key Responsibilities

As a Patient Coordinator, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Responding to patient inquiries and providing support via phone and other communication channels
  • Documenting patient information and needs accurately and efficiently
  • Escalating complex issues to nurses or other healthcare professionals as needed
  • Providing emotional support and empathy to patients and their families
  • Maintaining confidentiality and adhering to HIPAA guidelines
  • Working collaboratively with other team members to achieve shared goals and objectives

Requirements and Qualifications

To be successful as a Patient Coordinator, you will need:

  • A high school diploma or GED, with an associate's degree preferred
  • 1+ year of customer service experience, with 1-2 years of healthcare experience desired
  • Inbound call center experience preferred
  • Call center, medical office/clinic, front desk, or first point of contact in a customer service environment preferred
  • The ability to type a minimum of 25 wpm
  • Excellent organizational and computer skills, with the ability to multi-task while speaking with patients
  • Excellent listening and comprehension skills to determine key information from patients
  • A professional, courteous telephone voice
  • Dependability, reliability, and trustworthiness
  • The ability to defuse conversations and escalate if necessary
  • The ability to handle confidential information, with HIPAA experience a plus
  • Detail-oriented, with the ability to accurately process and document information
  • The ability to follow scripted information while interacting with patients and a willingness to escalate situations as appropriate
  • Flexibility with scheduling
  • The ability to receive feedback on job performance

Remote Workstation Requirements

To work as a Patient Coordinator with AccessNurse, you will need to:

  • Have a reliable high-speed internet connection, with a minimum bandwidth of 23 megabits download and 10 megabits upload
  • Use a land-line phone or a voice-over line provided by the same company as your internet (VOIP brands like MagicJack, Ring Central, Google Voice, etc. are not acceptable)
  • Have a workstation with enough space to accommodate two 27” computer monitors, a computer, a keyboard, a mouse, and a dial pad/phone
  • Arrange your workstation to hardwire to your internet and phone line
  • Ensure your workstation is located in a room with a door that can be locked
  • Maintain a HIPAA-compliant workspace that protects PHI and prevents disruptions during work hours

Physical and Environmental Demands

As a Patient Coordinator, you will work in a well-lit, modern office setting, with occasional lifting (20 pounds or less), visual and auditory acuity, manual and finger dexterity, and occasional stress. You will also be required to:

  • Work on a PC/computer for prolonged periods
  • Engage in prolonged telephone work and sitting
  • Occasionally push, pull, carry, lift, bend, and reach

Pay and Incentives

As a Patient Coordinator with AccessNurse, you will earn a base pay of $17.00 per hour, with additional incentives and shift differentials, including:

  • An additional $1 per hour for working 3pm-11pm eastern, Monday through Thursday
  • An additional weekend differential of $3 per hour, paid from Friday at 3pm eastern through Monday at 7am eastern
  • An additional $1 per hour for Spanish-speaking staff (testing required)

Training and Support

As a new Patient Coordinator, you will participate in a paid remote training class, which includes:

  • A 5-day training program, held over Zoom, with 100% attendance required
  • Ongoing support and coaching from experienced team members and leaders
