Job Overview and Responsibilities

As a Senior Data Engineer on our team, you will be responsible for designing, improving, and maintaining the core data infrastructure and pipelines that power our business modeling. This includes databases, data pipelines, and servers. Your expertise will be crucial in partnering with our data scientists and analysts to build robust data pipelines required for our modeling, as well as collaborating with analysts to design optimized SQL queries for scalable reporting. You will also work closely with the IT BI team to validate and push optimized queries with logic to our upstream DataMart, build and maintain local ETLs for our specific data science models and ad-hoc reporting, and enable data sharing processes between our internal database and corporate data warehouse.

  • Design, improve, and maintain the core data infrastructure and pipelines powering our business modeling, including databases, data pipelines, and servers.
  • Partner with data scientists and analysts to build robust data pipelines required for modeling.
  • Collaborate with analysts to design optimized SQL queries for scalable reporting with a growing data volume.
  • Coordinate with the IT BI team to validate and push optimized queries with logic to our upstream DataMart.
  • Build and maintain local ETLs for specific data science models and ad-hoc reporting.
  • Enable data sharing processes between our internal database and corporate data warehouse.
  • Think strategically about building a scalable system with a growing data volume and identify process gaps/areas for optimization and automation.

Requirements and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to bring a strong foundation in data engineering and a passion for working with complex data systems. Essential qualifications include:

  • Mastery of relational databases, SQL, and ETL tools.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering or a related field.
  • Proven track record in building, deploying, and optimizing complex data pipelines (batch and streaming).
  • Deep understanding of data engineering best practices and normalization techniques.
  • Solid experience with Unix/Shell, Python, and big data technologies (Apache Spark, Kafka).
  • Expertise in designing distributed APIs, web services, and using orchestration tools (Docker, Apache Airflow, CI/CD).

Preferred qualifications include experience with cloud-based data platforms, knowledge of data governance and security principles, and familiarity with agile development methodologies.
